TM Academy fellow in BMD Switzerland

About the role

We are ready to welcome you to the Translational Medicine Academy in Biomarker Development! 74+ projects, 190+ clinical studies, developing novel Biomarkers using diverse and innovative technologies, global and dynamic team driving scientific and operational strategy and innovation for an outstanding impact on clinical development. The Biomarker Development department (BMD), in Biomedical Research Translational Medicine, delivers integrated biomarker strategies and plans via therapeutic areas leads by using diverse expertise and knowledge in genetics, genomics, imaging, protein and cellular biology, human tissue research, vendor scientific monitoring, statistics, bioinformatics, digital endpoints, patient centric sampling and study coordination. Biomarker solutions are critical in clinical development to: inform decisions at defined stages in drug development; predict the effect of medication; select a group of patients who would benefit most from a given therapy; and identify opportunities for development of companion diagnostics. Our scientists identify and use a wide range of biomarkers to investigate a disease, profile a compounds mechanism of action, potency and likely side effects, select patients who may respond to therapy. Join our Academy! During the 2-year program, you will receive training and mentorship, with the empowerment to learn and work in a diverse, multicultural, global and inclusive BMD environment composed of: Molecular and Cellular Sciences: you will be trained in and have access to state-of-the-art biomarker technologies and learn the basic principles of Biomarker Context of Use and fit for purpose Biomarker validation. You will have the chance to develop and implement innovative biomarker solutions to address key scientific and clinical questions, such as target engagement, proof of mechanism, biology, safety, and efficacy understanding. You will collaborate with global cross-functional biomarker matrix teams to execute fit-for-purpose biomarker plans, implement internal and external biomarker activities and deliver high quality data. Quantitative Sciences & Innovation: you will train alongside Data Scientists applying high-throughput biomarker technologies from First In Human through Phase III clinical trials to investigate disease heterogeneity, drug efficacy, and patient safety to advance trials in new indications and patient populations. You will develop a thorough understanding of how biomedical data is used to generate meaningful insights, accelerating research and development of new medicines. You will contribute to the design and implementation of novel methodologies to combine multi-modal data such as clinical, omics, digital devices, and imaging originating from clinical trials and other real-world data sources. You will be involved from conceptualization of research ideas to study design, programming and analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of results. Laboratory Excellence and Operation, you will have the opportunity to represent BMD on clinical trial teams; work with biomarker experts and clinical trial leaders to develop biomarker plans for implementation in clinical studies. You will gain familiarity with innovative biomarker technologies used in clinical research and develop relevant study documentation, including clinical protocol biomarker sections, lab manuals, informed consent forms. You will work with stakeholders to resolve issues related to biomarker samples and acquire knowledge of potential ethical issues related to biomarker sample collection and analysis. You will learn to perform logistical and operational activities for innovative biomarkers, coordinating with clinical sites, central lab, and external service providers. You will monitor and provide oversight of biomarkers and laboratory assays (e.g. flow cytometry, Immunoassays) at external partners (CRO). Clinical Imaging and Analysis, you will have the opportunity to learn about world of imaging in Radioligand Therapy (RLT) by working side-by-side with imaging SMEs, to interview stakeholders across line functions and divisions, to define scientific and operational topics which should be presented in educational and to learn about imaging strategy, technology and implementation in clinical trials by working with imaging SMEs to generate educational content. You will learn about world of imaging of neurodegenerative diseases by working closely with imaging and data science experts, conducting hands-on analysis on primary imaging data and present results at internal meetings. Therapeutic Areas, you will have the opportunity to learn about very diverse diseases across several therapeutic areas like Immunology, Neuroscience, Musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and metabolism, engaging with subject matter experts and biomarker experts to develop and contribute to integrated and innovative Biomarker strategies and plans together with our translational medicine experts and across the research-development-commercial continuum. In collaboration with BMD functions, you will develop a broad understanding of how innovative technologies coupled to data sciences may influence project decision making.
