Ziad Al Nabhani in the Department for BioMedical Research (DBMR) is offering a fully funded fellowship for a PhD project in the field of mucosal immunology.

The group of Prof. Ziad Al Nabhani in the Department for BioMedical Research (DBMR) is offering a fully funded fellowship for a PhD project in the field of mucosal immunology. The fellowship is available immediately, for a period of 4 years.

Our research focuses on the regulation of immune system by gut microbiota and the consequences of their interplay on the susceptibility to develop chronic inflammatory diseases (Al Nabhani et al., Immunity 2019, Nature Metabolism 2019, Mucosal Immunology 2020). We are currently looking for a PhD Student in immunology to join the research group and work on a research project funded by the Swiss National Science Fund (SNSF). The project aims to define how maturation of immune system by intestinal microbiota early in infancy prevent the development of colorectal cancer later in life. Specific aims will be discussed during interview. The project offers a special opportunity to be trained on immunology and experimental cancer research using germ-free and gnotobiotic mouse models harboring controlled gut microbiota.

Qualification profile:
  • Master degree in cell biology, immunology or a related life science discipline
  • Preferred proficiency in flow cytometry/physiology, and/or microscopy
  • Interest in data analysis of gut microbiota
  • Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills
  • Highly self-motivated and enthusiastic for interdisciplinary research
  • Fluency in English, German and French would be an asset
