Job Purpose

A defense company based in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Senior FPGA Engineer to join its advanced technology team. This role is ideal for a highly skilled engineer with a strong background in digital circuit design and FPGA development, particularly in high-performance, low-latency systems. You will be involved in the full FPGA development lifecycle, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions for secure communications and other mission-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop FPGA specifications and architectures from high-level block diagrams and product requirements
• Integrate FPGA designs with hardware and support system-level integration and qualification
• Lead system design, integration, debugging, and bring-up in lab and field environments
• Design and implement SoC solutions using embedded ARM processors (e.g., Zynq Ultrascale)
• Utilize high-speed interfaces such as JESD, 1G Ethernet, DDR, and AXI buses
• Apply advanced debugging tools and techniques for FPGA-based PCBs
• Collaborate with geographically dispersed, multicultural engineering teams

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• 10+ years of experience in FPGA design, particularly in wireless communication domains
• Proficiency in VHDL, Verilog, and/or SystemVerilog
• Experience with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB
• Strong background in HDL testbench design, verification, and regression testing
• Expertise in FPGA architecture, timing closure, and design optimization
• Familiarity with hardware debuggers, chip-scopes, and on-chip simulators
• Experience with custom FPGA-based PCB bring-up and debugging

Desirable Skills

• Experience with Xilinx SoC platforms, especially Zynq and Zynq Ultrascale
• Knowledge of baseband solutions for communication waveforms
• Understanding of Internet Protocol communication interfaces and high-speed interconnects
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with emerging technologies
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver results under pressure
• Adaptability to shifting project priorities and requirements
